There will, however, be no interchange with the Delhi Metro system as of now. In future, the Sector 71 station of Aqua Line is expected to have a walkway connecting it with Sector 51 station of the Blue Line extension (currently under construction). The first train is expected to be flagged off by the CM from Greater Noida. We hope the express service, which is meant to skip certain stations, is also started,” said Ashish Mishra, a resident of Sector Alpha. In December, there was talk of the Aqua Line being inaugurated by the PM on Christmas. The launch date has come as a relief for both NMRC and DMRC, which were worried about the January 31 cutoff. “It would have necessitated many arrangements too,” the official said.

NOIDA: The Noida-Greater Noida metro corridor will be inaugurated by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on January 25, more than a month after it got the all-clear from the safety commissioner to start operations. The announcement comes a week after TOI reported that UP government’s plans for high-profile launch could be delaying the corridor (called the Aqua Line ) and that the launch needed to take place by January 31 after which a second safety inspection would be needed. The launch of the corridor — 29.7km long with 21 stations — will be a connectivity landmark for Noida, which can now boast of its own metro network complementing Delhi Metro’s Blue and Magenta Lines, surging well ahead of Gurgaon, NCR’s fastest-growing city. The Aqua Line will also, for the first time, bring Greater Noida into NCR’s metro grid and buoy the real estate and commercial market there as well as encourage thousands of people who have invested in homes there to move in. But it’s unlikely that the Prime Minister will join him in the inauguration, like he did when the Magenta Line was launched from Botanical Garden, officials said.PD Upadhyay, executive director of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), said on Thursday the inauguration will happen at the Depot station, from where the CM will take the train up to Sector 142 station. Sources said the date was conveyed to the NMRC and Noida Authority CEO Alok Tandon during a meeting of senior officials with the chief secretary in Lucknow around 5pm on Thursday. While none of the officials came on record to officially rule out the PM’s presence, one official said a programme is sent 15 days in advance if it involves a visit by the PM. “It would have necessitated many arrangements too,” the official said. In December, there was talk of the Aqua Line being inaugurated by the PM on Christmas. The launch date has come as a relief for both NMRC and DMRC, which were worried about the January 31 cutoff. “A second round of CMRS (commissioner of metro railway safety) inspection would have been disgraceful,” said an official. The Noida Authority, meanwhile, will come under pressure to finish work on the road under the metro viaduct — verges, parking lots, etc — by January 25.“It is a delayed launch but it is good to hear that metro will finally be commissioned. We hope the express service, which is meant to skip certain stations, is also started,” said Ashish Mishra, a resident of Sector Alpha.
