GHAZIABAD: A 20-year-old was arrested on Friday for allegedly forging his date of birth in order to get his marriage registered at the registrar’s office in Ghaziabad The accused has been identified as Afsar Ali, a resident of Garima Garden in Shahibabad. When he submitted his identity proofs on Thursday to get his marriage registered, the sub-registrar screening the documents found that the date of birth on his Aadhaar card had been tampered with. He was thereafter arrested.Sub-registrar Suresh Chandra Morya said, “A doubt came to my mind after checking his Aadhaar card. Then I told him to come next day. In the investigation, we came to know that he changed his date of birth on the Aadhaar card and submitted it in the office. According to the tampered date of birth, he claims himself as 21-years-old. When we checked online, we found that he is 20 years and 17 days old.” The legal age for marriage in India is 18 years for women and 21 years for men. “An FIR was lodged against Ali under under sections 420 and 467 of the IPC, he was produced in a city court that sent him to judicial custody ,”said Sanjay Pandey, SHO of Sihani Gate police station.
