Fog triggers pile-up on EPE, 3 injured

GREATER NOIDA: Three persons suffered minor injuries after six heavy vehicles piled up on Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) near Beel Akbarpur village in Dadri due to heavy fog on Monday morning.Police said four trucks, one commercial car and a Mahindra pick-up van piled up around 8am. Ramesh was travelling inside the truck that was heading towards Sonipat from Faridabad. Vijay’s truck was heading towards Ghaziabad.“I was sitting next to the driver when he slowed down the vehicle because there was literally zero visibility on the highway. The volunteers had cleared the traffic within 15 minutes and the damaged vehicles were removed in less than an hour with the help of a crane. We called a mobile ambulance and the injured were given immediate medical assistance,” said Azam Ansari, the patrolling in-charge at the EPE.Two of the injured persons have been identified as Ramesh (25) and Vijay Verma, who were helpers in the two trucks that were among the pile-up vehicles.

However, no death was reported in the case.“We received information at 8.10am after a call was made on the highway helpline number, 1033, after which a team of 12 medical experts and policemen was immediately sent to the spot. We called a mobile ambulance and the injured were given immediate medical assistance,” said Azam Ansari, the patrolling in-charge at the EPE.Two of the injured persons have been identified as Ramesh (25) and Vijay Verma, who were helpers in the two trucks that were among the pile-up vehicles. Ramesh was travelling inside the truck that was heading towards Sonipat from Faridabad. He suffered injuries to the hands and legs. Vijay’s truck was heading towards Ghaziabad.“I was sitting next to the driver when he slowed down the vehicle because there was literally zero visibility on the highway. Just seconds later, a truck hit us from behind and due to the impact, we collided on to a bus in front of us,” said Ramesh.Ram Sen Singh, the SHO of Dadri police station said, “With the help of the highway patrolling team, the situation was immediately brought under control. The volunteers had cleared the traffic within 15 minutes and the damaged vehicles were removed in less than an hour with the help of a crane. No complaint has been filed so far in the matter.”
