Noida’s weekend off-roading adventure

It takes about 20 minutes to finish the complete off-roading track. A solo dirt bike and ATV Quad bike race event was held on Sunday, which saw 50 people from NCR trying their hands at the mean machines. “This was the first time I tried my hand at off-roading and it was quite fun but dangerous at the same time. The challenge which lay ahead of the participants was to complete the track in the minimum time. Even though Gurgaon also has off-roading tracks, but since all my friends stay in this part of the city, I decided to come over to experience some adventure sports,” said Himanshu, a resident of Gurgaon.

With the sound of revving engines and dust blowing in the air, Noidawallahs got to experience off-roading at the city’s only ATV Circuit in Sector 135. A solo dirt bike and ATV Quad bike race event was held on Sunday, which saw 50 people from NCR trying their hands at the mean machines. “I have come to participate from Gurgaon since all my friends suggested we go here. Even though Gurgaon also has off-roading tracks, but since all my friends stay in this part of the city, I decided to come over to experience some adventure sports,” said Himanshu, a resident of Gurgaon. The 1.5km-long course consisted of a variety of challenges, including tight turns, pylon maneuvers and booby traps. The challenge which lay ahead of the participants was to complete the track in the minimum time. Most of the participants at the event were amateurs and were trying out the off-road racing for the first time. Kriti, a resident of Sector 137, who works at HCL, said, “I got to know about the event through mutual friends and decided to get registered. We wanted to do something different this weekend, so we decided to try out some adventure sports.”As the race started, participants steered along the zigzag tracks and some even got stuck in the pylon maneuver pit. The bumps and hills across the track also stumped the riders, as they had to use their feet to push up their bikes. “This was the first time I tried my hand at off-roading and it was quite fun but dangerous at the same time. The dirt bikes are very light and since the whole track is muddy, there are chances of skidding during the rides,” said Rajat, a resident of Mayur Vihar who works in Gurgaon.A pair of riders was sent for the races one at a time and the rider who would finish first was qualified for the next round. The finalists were given a limited time to complete the race and would only win the prize if the race completed on time. “We had winners for both the categories – solo dirt and ATV quad bike racing. It takes about 20 minutes to finish the complete off-roading track. During the first round, some of the riders took over 30 minutes to complete the track but won because their partners were slower,” said Rahil Khan, the organiser of the event.Around 10 participants reached the final round where they had to again compete in pairs. “In the final round, since we limited the time period to 15 minutes, the difficulty levels increased which tested the strength, endurance and skills of the riders. We had four winners in both the categories – two in each,” added Khan. For some, the event also marked personal celebrations. “We wanted to do something different for my friend’s bachelor party, so we zeroed in on participating in this event. We thought that it is very common for people to go to pubs and clubs for celebrations, and we keep doing that otherwise as well, so why not try adventure sports?” said Aditya Baghel, a resident of Indirapuram and works at Genpact in Noida.
