Elderly flyers held with forex worth Rs 92 lakh at IGI

NEW DELHI: A male and a female passenger — aged around 70 years — were arrested at the IGI airport after they were caught trying to smuggle out foreign currency worth nearly Rs 92 lakh. A detailed baggage and personal search was carried out for both passengers with foreign currency worth Rs 92 lakh found concealed in the baggage.“The bag was checked based on random profiling,” said a Customs official. The foreign currency, in Euros and Dirham , was found concealed in the hand baggage of the accused, who were headed to Dubai.Customs officials said the incident took place on Friday night with the passengers intercepted when they were headed to board a flight EK 511 from Terminal-3.
