GREATER NOIDA: Nobody can accuse Amit Yadav of making a false proclamation of love. After all, he has fallen in love, literally. As many as 15 persons, including the groom , fell into a drain when a concrete bridge on which they were dancing collapsed in Hoshiyarpur village on Saturday night. Three children suffered injuries and two of them had to be admitted to a hospital for some time. The accident occurred around 9.30pm. Most of the baratis were already done with their moves and had proceeded to the Olive Green wedding banquet. But the groom and his 14 friends were not done yet. As they danced to the tunes of Punjabi numbers, the bridge leading to the banquet could no longer bear their weight and came crashing down after about 10 minutes. The embarrassment prompted the baratis to threaten legal action against the banquet owner. The wedding, however, resumed after the owner offered a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to groom’s family.Amit Yadav, a businessman from Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, had come to Noida to marry Sonam, a resident of Kondli village in New Delhi. The concrete bridge and the banquet hall, both painted white, had grabbed the eyeballs of Sonam’s father Phool Kumar, who had booked it for his daughter’s wedding on February 9.“The baratis had been welcomed and most people had gone inside. But the groom and a few others continued dancing on the bridge. It collapsed from the left after about 10 minutes and all of them fell into the drain,” the banquet guard said.Though a police team reached the spot, no complaint was lodged as the banquet authorities and the groom’s family reached a compromise.“All were rescued safely, except two eight-year-old kids, who had to be taken to hospital. However, they, too, were discharged after some time,” said Mithilesh Upadhyay, the SHO of Sector 24 police station. The groom’s family claimed a few of them lost their phones and jewellery in the muck. The owners of the banquet took responsibility of the accident. “We returned the money. The wedding resumed and the guests left with a smile,” said OP Sharma, the banquet owner.Amit, meanwhile, would have said in his prayers: “All’s well that ends well.”
