GREATER NOIDA: An unidentified woman was mowed down by a school bus in Dadri area of Greater Noida on Monday. Police said the woman was crossing the road after jumping over a jersey barrier near Punjab National Bank when she slipped and fell.She was crushed to death by the left rear tyre of the bus, which was ferrying at least 20 students of Kaushalya World School.The woman died on the spot. The police are looking for the driver and attendant of the bus. The accident occurred around 3pm when the bus, bearing the registration number UP16 DT 9869, was ferrying the students home. Police said the woman was yet to be identified as her face had been completely disfigured. The cops did not get any ID card on the body.“We received information about the accident around 3.10pm, when a passerby dialed 100. A police team was immediately sent to the spot but the driver and attendant had fled by then. There were 20 children still in the bus. They were escorted to their homes while the body of the woman was sent for autopsy,” said Ram Sen Singh, the SHO of Dadri police station.Singh added that the schoolbus was on its way to drop children to their homes when the accident occurred. “Prima facie seems that the woman had jumped over a jersey barrier in order to cross the road. The driver of the bus failed to apply the brakes in time and mowed her down,” he said.Passersby said the woman would not have come under the wheels of the bus had she not slipped. The victim, they said, had just jumped over the divider to get to the other side of the road when she slipped and fell.“The woman stood for a few seconds after jumping over the barrier. Then, she suddenly slipped and fell. The bus was hurtling down the road. She came under the rear left tyre and was crushed to death. It was unfortunate,” said a commuter, who requested not to be identified.The police are currently looking for the family of the woman to hand over the body. “We have not been able to identify the woman as yet. We have directed nearby police outposts to prepare a list of missing persons. On the other hand, the school management has been informed about the accident and we have sought details of the driver. No case has been lodged in the accident as we are waiting for the family to identify the body. A case would be filed very soon and investigation will follow,” Singh added.
