Sunset Raahgiri for the first time in Noida

“The main objective of Raahgiri Day is promoting sustainable transport, creating awareness about road safety, citizen health and inclusive city development. This decision was taken following citizens’ demand for an evening Raahgiri post two weeks of successful such days held on February 3 and 10,” said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager Noida Authority.During the event, citizens will take to the street with the aim to celebrate the city roads for pedestrians thereby generating awareness against vehicular pollution on the rise. NOIDA: Noida Authority will hold first night Raahgiri called the ‘Sunset Raahgiri Day’ on Saturday that is February 16 from 5 pm to 8 pm on the 1.5 km road stretch between DLF Mall and Sector 18 market.Touted as the first evening Raahgiri event in the country, the event is dedicated to experience streets with activities like cycling, walking and performing arts.The move comes following increased residents demand who participated in the last two Raahgiris held on February 3 and 10 in the city, where in addition to reclaiming the streets for pedestrians, activities included generating awareness against environment pollution as well as music, Zumba, skating etc.“We will be holding the first evening Raahgiri in the country in Noida on Saturday February 16 from 5 pm to 8 pm and then every Saturday henceforth. It will be a day every week, which will be dedicated to inviting people to experience their streets with activities like cycling, walking and performing arts as a vehicle-free citizen initiative,” said Tyagi who adds that they will promote public transport with the help of traffic police and volunteers at the event.Open to all citizens, including children/students, schools, RWAs, NGOs, the venue promises various activities like, Zumba, bhangra, aerobic, music band, games on street like tug-of-war, 8 boxes, 7 boxes, stapoo, ludo on street with dice and gitti etc.The event which is originally a morning affair and began in Gurugram in 2013, has so far been held across 18 states and more than 70 cities in the country.
