GREATER NOIDA: A fire broke out at the 14th-floor apartment in Ace City housing society in Greater Noida (west) on Tuesday that was caused by an ongoing welding procedure on one of the top floor flat. The residents noticed fumes emerging from a flat on the 14th floor on hearing the fire alarm.Vibhore Rastogi, the owner of the flat (1401) where the fire broke was in Indore when the incident happened. “I recieved a call from a neighbour around 2.30 pm informing me about the fire. Welding work was underway on the 21st floor and some clothes which were hanging in the balcony of a flat on the 15th floor apparently caught fire. The fire then spread to the cooler kept in the balcony of my apartment and many of my appliances, including the cooler, air conditioner and heater got burnt. The fire which started from the balcony had spread to the master bedroom,” he said. After noticing the fumes, residents staying in the flats in immediate proximity to the 1401 had to evacuate the premises. According to residents, the cause behind the spreading of fire was the non-functioning sprinkler installed in the flat.“The sprinkler did not function as it was installed opposite to the spot from where the fire originated. The loss has been estimated to about Rs 1 lakh,” Rastogi, a sales executive in a Swedish MNC in Connaught Place told TOI.A fire tender had arrived the spot by 3.20 pm. “As all fire safety equipment were in place, the fire could not further spread. The maintenance team doused the fire within 10 minutes. We have spoken to the flat owner and he is satisfied with the services. For us at Ace group, customers’ satisfaction and quality service is the top priority ,” said an Ace Group spokesperson.
