Jewar land grabbers may be booked under Gangster Act

The district magistrate has written a letter to Yamuna Authority CEO to identify such land grabbers and register FIRs against them.BN Singh, the district magistrate, said the administration has received information that some people are involved in illegally plotting the land earmarked for the airport project. “Yamuna Authority is only entitled to regulate any construction/development in its notified area. If YEIDA makes identification of land grabbers and colonisers and files cases, we will slap Gangster Act on the accused,” he wrote.The district magistrate, however, justified the move to prevent a Shahberi like unauthorised colony in Jewar airport’s neighbourhood. “Shehaberi’s unauthorised colony mushroomed due to lack of enforcement. We do not want repetition of such incidents,” he told TOI.“We have asked the Yamuna Authority to ensure the development and construction activities in all its notified villages are as per its regulation and building bylaws. Strict action is required to stop any unauthorised colony from developing,” the DM added.But this could put land losers in trouble as some of them have continued construction work on their premises.Thakur Rakesh Singh, vice president of Jewar Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, said the farmers have been demanding four times compensation and all other benefits under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013. “Some farmers are themselves constructing and reparing their homes. Some developers have also started land plotting in neighbouring villages since the land prices will shoot up with the airport project,” he said.The district administration is likely to start land acquisition for Jewar international airport from February 21. The administration has completed almost all paper work and compensation will be awarded from next Thursday. A district administration team visited Jewar’s Ranhera and Parohi village to supervise the preparations.“The compensation will be awarded to farmers of these two villages first.
