BSP man held for trying to honey-trap former minister

Police said Updesh Nagar, the district vice-president of BSP, and the woman were tracked down near Bisrakh around 20 days after an FIR for extortion and criminal intimidation was filed against them, following a complaint by Kartar Singh Nagar who served as Mayawati’s PWD minister from 2007 to 2012.In his complaint, Kartar has alleged that the woman would call him up on WhatsApp and insist on a personal meeting. Many a time, she had expressed her willingness to accompany the former minister to a vacation. Vaibhav, the son of the former minister, said the woman had first called his father on December 25.“The woman always made WhatsApp calls and introduced herself as Usha who wanted to enter politics, to which my father had asked her to meet him with her husband. The always wanted to meet my father alone and suggested he should go on a vacation with her. We suspected a conspiracy and filed a police complaint,” he added.Police said Updesh, a resident of Milak Lacchi village of Bisrakh area, tried to honey-trap the former minister by taking his photos in a compromising position with the woman. “During interrogation, the accused told us they wanted to extort Rs 2 crore from the minister,” said Nagendra Chaubey, SHO of Badalpur police station.“Updesh actually wanted to take revenge as the former minister had complained to Mayawati against his brother-in-law, a rape accused, who was the frontrunner for a BSP ticket to contest in the 2014 general elections,” he added.
