GREATER NOIDA: The UP government is exploring the possibility of setting up a regulatory body to keep in check rates charged by private hospitals for treatment. “I raised the demand for a regulatory body for all hospitals and clinics via question number 46. “The common man has the right for affordable treatment, which is beyond their reach in private hospitals. In view of that, I’ve raised the requirement for a regulatory body for all hospitals and clinics,” Singh said.The MLA said the regulatory body should be set up under provisions of the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010.

GREATER NOIDA: The UP government is exploring the possibility of setting up a regulatory body to keep in check rates charged by private hospitals for treatment. This was revealed by Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh after a meeting of the legislative Assembly on Monday.“It is a well-known fact that the common man is not able to get affordable medical facilities due to high rates charged for treatment or any other facility at private hospitals. In view of that, I’ve raised the requirement for a regulatory body for all hospitals and clinics,” Singh said.The MLA said the regulatory body should be set up under provisions of the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010. He said the body should be in line with the Telephone Regulatory Authority of India.Singh said the UP government had assured action on his demand for the regulatory body. The issue was taken up on the second Monday of the first session of the UP legislative Assembly of 2019. “I raised the demand for a regulatory body for all hospitals and clinics via question number 46. The health minister took note of the matter and assured action under provisions of the Clinical Establishment Act,” Singh said.The Act provides for effective regulatory mechanism over all government, non-governmental clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, laboratories, diagnostic centres and medical centres with an aim to provide accessible medical facilities to the public. “The common man has the right for affordable treatment, which is beyond their reach in private hospitals. Such hospitals charge a very high fee for facilities and treatment. A regulatory body for these hospitals and clinics is the need of the hour so that the common man is not exploited,” the MLA said.The Act had been enacted by the Centre to provide for registration and regulation of all clinical establishments in the country with a view to prescribe the minimum standards of facilities and services provided by them. It has been implemented in four states — Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram , Sikkim, and all Union Territories except Delhi.
