NOIDA: Many firsts are slated for the 33rd Vasant Utsav (flower show) which will be held at Ramlila ground sector 21A from February 22 to 24. While Antirrhinum is the theme flower for the event, for the first time Noida Authority has used social media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to reach out to the people.Other firsts include drone surveillance of the venue for security checks , a photography contest open to all at the venue, paramilitary band performance, a commemorating of country's martyrs and cultural performance by local artists.While social media links were activated by Noida Authority on Wednesday including - Instagram https://www.instagram.com/utsavvasant/, Twitter https://twitter.com/UtsavVasant and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Vasant-Utsav-2019-Noida-Flower-Show 321475008498922/?modal=admin_todo_tour, response to the event started almost immediately."There are many first's happening at the Noida Flower Show this year. For the first time we are propagating the event on social media across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platforms. We activated the event on these platforms from Wednesday and by early evening there were already 1500 followers on Instagram. Another first will be getting the show covered by drone for security and overview of the event. Also, for the first time we will commemorate and honour the martyrs of the country at the event. Yet another first includes a photography competition where people can take pictures of flowers and the event where the winner will be declared at the end of the three-day festival, a paramilitary band performance is also another first and key highlight of the event," said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager Noida Authority.Apart from this, local artists will give performances dance (Kathak and other forms) and music at the event. "Through nukkad nataks, visitors will be made aware of environmental issues," said Tyagi.With the theme flower being Antirrhinum, other flowers on display will be Alyssum, Carnation, Marigold, Chrysanthemums, Dahlia, Dianthus, Roses, Carnations, Pansy, Salvia, Putin etc.A special display of fruits and vegetables grown in pots along with indigenous organic products will be on display. An added attraction will be vertical gardens, also known as living walls.An awareness towards pollution controlling / air purifying plants along with importance of water conservation would also be available at the event. "There will be ongoing programmes and talks on awareness about air purifying and pollution controlling plants along with importance of water conservation. A series of demonstrations on nest making and planting indoor plants will be carried out for the children. There will be special section allotted to composting demonstration from kitchen waste at the event,” said Tyagi.
