NOIDA: With as many as 43 cases of swine flu reported from Noida and at least 128 cases reported from Ghaziabad, swine flu cases in the two districts are on the rise. The current swine flu season which is considered to start from December-February, has seen a sudden spurt in the number of swine flu cases with as many as 15 cases reported from Noida in the past two weeks alone.According to the health department, at least three more deaths have been reported in Noida hospitals of three residents, while as many as 120 samples of suspected patients have been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi for testing. The NCDC is mandated with testing of H1N1 virus cases emanating from NCR region. While 43 cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Noida between September and February, in neighbouring Ghaziabad as many as 128 cases have been reported between December and February. In Ghaziabad, as many as 150 cases of swine flu patients belonging to other districts have been reported across the different hospitals in district.Dr Anurag Bhargava, chief medical officer (CMO), Gautam Budh Nagar told TOI that among the three deaths reported, the deceased belonged to Allahabad, Meerut and Ghaziabad.“One of the doctors at district hospital, Sector 30 has been diagnosed with swine flu too,” he said.Ghaziabad CMO Dr Narendra Gupta said no death has been reported from their district so far but at least 10 patients of the disease that have come to Ghaziabad hospitals belong to Noida.“We have informed hospitals, schools and other institutes about the swine flu vaccine and urge the public to take vaccine for the H1N1 virus,” he said.Dr HM Lavania, pathologist, district hospital, Sector 30 told TOI that at least 15 suspected cases of swine flu have come in the last weeks itself. The number of swine flu cases is, however, much higher than the cases reported in Noida in the previous season from September 2017-February 2018, which stood at seven but as many as 63 cases had been reported in Gautam Budh Nagar in the year including those belonging to other districts.Meanwhile, doctors suggest that distance should be maintained from a person suffering from cold and flu and people should avoid direct contact with those suffering from the symptoms of the disease.Symptoms of the disease include sudden high fever, dry persistent cough, lingering headache, pain in muscles and bones, prolonged tiredness and weakness, diarrhoea with abdominal pain, joint pain and limb pain, vomiting and nausea, running or blocked nose, unremitting sneezes, sore throat, loss of appetite and disturbed sleep.
