“The report can only hint at a possible age as per the X-rays conducted for age determination,” he said. It is strange that the police went ahead with an age determination test even as the family has claimed that she is a minor . We got to know about it only on Wednesday evening after which we informed the police station in-charge and the circle officer of the area. But police neither informed the CWC nor Childline so that we could produce her before the committee. Her family producing a birth certificate to claim she was 11.

NOIDA: A girl who apparently left her home with a 22-year-old man in January was detained at the Sector 49 police station for at least two days after the duo was found on Monday, NGO Childline has alleged. And rather than producing her before the Child Welfare Committee, the police made her to undergo an age determination test at the district hospital that declared her as 18 years old. Her family producing a birth certificate to claim she was 11. The SSP has now ordered a probe into the case.Satya Prakash, Childline manager, told TOI on Friday that a case was lodged at the same police station in January against the youth under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc) and 376 (rape).“On Monday, the girl was founf by police from near Barola T-point and the youth was also caught. But police neither informed the CWC nor Childline so that we could produce her before the committee. We got to know about it only on Wednesday evening after which we informed the police station in-charge and the circle officer of the area. Finally, Gautam Budh Nagar SSP Vaibhav Krishna was apprised of the same and he directed the police station to hand over the child to the CWC immediately,” he said. The girl’s parents have, meanwhile, questioned the age determination test report prepared by a committee of three doctors of the health department. The committee, headed by CMO Dr Anurag Bhargava, has said in its findings that “on the basis of inspection and probe, the panel confirms that the age of the girl is 18 years.”“As per the advancements of modern science, no one can confirm the exact age of a child and in fact, can only hint at a possible age. It is strange that the police went ahead with an age determination test even as the family has claimed that she is a minor . This could possibly result in bail for the accused youth,” said Prakash. “If the police think her birth certificate is fake, then let the court take a call on the same,” he added. The girl also recorded her statements before the Surajpur court on Friday. When contacted, CMO Bhargava admitted that no doctor could confirm the exact age of a person. “The report can only hint at a possible age as per the X-rays conducted for age determination,” he said.
