First-year biotech student ends his life in apartment

Noida: A first-year biotechnology student of Amity University was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his flat in a housing society on Monday night. “We have taken the body into custody,” the officer added.Police sources said pressure in studies could be one of the the reasons behind Utkarsh deciding to end his life. His friends were not at home when Utkarsh allegedly committed suicide.“He was alone in the apartment around 10.30 pm on Monday as both his roommates were out. “No suicide note was recovered from the house,” he said. When they arrived around 10.45pm, they found the door locked from inside.

Noida: A first-year biotechnology student of Amity University was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his flat in a housing society on Monday night. Utkarsh Shukla, who was originally from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, probably ended his life due to the pressure of studies, police said.According to police, 23-year-old Utkarsh, a student of IInd semester of biotechnology, was staying in the flat in Amrapali Sapphire society along with two flatmates. His friends were not at home when Utkarsh allegedly committed suicide.“He was alone in the apartment around 10.30 pm on Monday as both his roommates were out. When they arrived around 10.45pm, they found the door locked from inside. The flatmates then informed the security guard about the same and the latter broke open the door,” a police officer said.Sub-inspector Saurabh Kumar said the security guard and Utkarsh’s flatmates removed his body from the noose and took him to a private hospital in Sector 128, where he was declared brought dead.“The friends had informed his family members about his death and the police were informed in the morning,” he said. “We have taken the body into custody,” the officer added.Police sources said pressure in studies could be one of the the reasons behind Utkarsh deciding to end his life. Though his friends declined to speak much on the issue of pressure in their studies, sources said Utkarsh had been depressed for some time.A reaction from the university was not immediately available.Police said the relatives of the deceased refused to get a post-mortem done and wanted to take his body home.Sector 39 SHO Prashant Kapil said the family neither lodged a police complaint nor did they allow them to get a post-mortem done. “No suicide note was recovered from the house,” he said.
