NEW DELHI: A director of a real estate firm has been arrested from Noida for selling single properties to multiple people at a time. The buyer had gone to check on the apartment and found that each one was sold to multiple buyers who were fighting for its ownership. The company would offer office and residential apartments to buyers through advertisements in newspapers and on television. However, cops laid a trap and caught a director last month when he had landed in Delhi. All the apartments were also just partially constructed.“We registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against the company and its directors.

NEW DELHI: A director of a real estate firm has been arrested from Noida for selling single properties to multiple people at a time. The company would offer office and residential apartments to buyers through advertisements in newspapers and on television. A case was registered in Delhi after the buyers found that the apartment they had booked for crores of rupees was also owned by several others.Additional CP (EOW) Suvashis Chaudhary said they had received a complaint from one of the homebuyers. The buyer had gone to check on the apartment and found that each one was sold to multiple buyers who were fighting for its ownership. All the apartments were also just partially constructed.“We registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against the company and its directors. A probe was initiated, during which of the one of the directors, Anoop Mithas, was arrested,” said Chaudhary.The complainant had told cops that he and his elder brother had booked two flats at the housing project, after a representative of the company showed them a brochure containing mock-up of the apartments. After paying the initial amount, the siblings had asked the company executives to show them the plan for the apartment, but this was never handed over to them. When they went to the site, they ran into other homebuyers claiming ownership of the same flat.A complaint was registered against the director and four others at the EOW unit in Mandir Marg after which teams were formed to track down the owner. It was found that they had collected money by showing the same apartment to their victims.The accused had fled to a foreign country to evade arrest. However, cops laid a trap and caught a director last month when he had landed in Delhi. Mithas was caught at his instance.
