Dance teacher, 2 others ‘beaten up’ by Sector 20 cops

A PCR van was parked nearby but the cops inside ignored the incident, despite having seen everything. Noida: A dance teacher has alleged that she, along with her colleague and a minor student, was harassed and beaten up by officials of Noida’s Sector 20 police station on International Women’s Day after they complained about three drunk youths who allegedly tried to hit her with their car.According to Swati Kumari, the 27-year-old owner of Swati School of Dance in Sector 27, she was waiting with her colleague Amar (21) for an auto in Sector 18 on Friday night. “Around 9.30 pm, three youths came in an Alto at the spot and tried to run over my foot. A PCR van was parked nearby but the cops inside ignored the incident, despite having seen everything. I then complained about the youths to Atta chowki cops who said that it was an everyday affair,” Swati said.She said the policemen then asked the youths to leave the spot and allegedly started abusing her. As Swati and her colleagues tried to reason with them to lodge a complaint, her student Rohit was passing by the area and stopped to see what was happening. “I clicked a picture of the cops peacefully and tried to leave the area when they surrounded us and started manhandling us. We dialled 100 number and as soon as the PCR arrived, the cops called some officials from Sector 20 police station and a team arrived at the spot who took us to the police station,” Swati said.According to her, the policemen thrashed her colleague as well as the student, and she was forced to give a written apology. “Anyway I managed to record the incident on my mobile phone,” she said.On Tuesday, Swati met SSP Vaibhav Krishna. When contacted, he said the inquiry will be handled by SP (city) Sudha Singh “who will give her report within four days”.
