Van with Rs 1 crore seized; cops suspect cash was for votes

Greater Noida: A cash van was seized from Behlolpur Phase 3 area on Thursday afternoon and Noida Police has claimed that the vehicle was ferrying Rs 1.37 crore without proper documents. Police suspect that the cash was being ferried in violation to the RBI guidelines and it was meant for political parties ahead of the elections. The police stopped the blue and white van, with registration number DL 1L T 1910, at a checkpost.“We seized a cash van with over Rs 1 crore for which there was no solid document produced by the driver. We have the necessary documents,” said a representative.In another incident in Noida, a cash van of CMS was found violating RBI guidelines regarding security while ferrying money. It was found that the cash was being transported illegally by violating a number of RBI guidelines.

Police said the driver and the helper have been detained.The van belonged to a company called Cash Management Solutions (CMS) and its representatives said the money was meant for ATMs in Noida. They alleged that five men from the company have been detained illegally.The incident took place near Behlolpur Phase 3, Noida, around 2pm on Thursday. The police stopped the blue and white van, with registration number DL 1L T 1910, at a checkpost.“We seized a cash van with over Rs 1 crore for which there was no solid document produced by the driver. It was found that the cash was being transported illegally by violating a number of RBI guidelines. We have reported the matter to the income tax department. Efforts are being made to trace the source of the cash and find out where the van was headed,” said Vaibhav Krishna, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar.He added it is suspected that the cash was meant for political parties. “It is suspected to be a case of smuggling. It can have links with political parties because such cases are common during elections,” he said.CMS officials told TOI that the police have detained five of their employees — a driver, two cashiers and two security guards — who they said were going to refill ATMs. “The money was being transported to refill ATMs in the area and it belonged to banks. Police have illegally detained our officials. We have the necessary documents,” said a representative.In another incident in Noida, a cash van of CMS was found violating RBI guidelines regarding security while ferrying money.
