Cong names candidate for Noida, BJP likely today

Jaiveer Singh Chauhan had been a BSP MLA in 2002 and 2007 from Barauli in Aligarh. Noida: The Congress has fielded Arvind Kumar Singh (30) from the Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha seat. Following this, Arvind also contested the Lok Sabha poll from Aligarh in 2014 on a BSP ticket but lost to the BJP’s Satish Kumar Gautam. Nagar has started his poll campaign, promising to address local issues and farmers’ distress.Though there was a buzz earlier in the day, the BJP did not announce its candidate till late Sunday evening. He joined the Congress recently, but his family last year switched from the BSP to BJP.“I was faced with an ideological clash and decided against joining the BJP.

Noida: The Congress has fielded Arvind Kumar Singh (30) from the Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha seat. Arvind comes from a family with considerable political backing and is the son of Jaiveer Singh Chauhan and Raj Kumari Chauhan, who have contested several elections on various party tickets.Raj Kumari Chauhan was elected MP from Aligarh in the 2009 Lok Sabha poll. Following this, Arvind also contested the Lok Sabha poll from Aligarh in 2014 on a BSP ticket but lost to the BJP’s Satish Kumar Gautam. Arvind had bagged the second position, securing 2,27,886 votes against Gautam’s 5,14,622. Jaiveer Singh Chauhan had been a BSP MLA in 2002 and 2007 from Barauli in Aligarh. He was also a minister in the Mayawati government, but later switched to BJP.Arvind, who holds a master’s degree in international affairs from University of Leeds, England, is also the chancellor of Noida International University, which is owned by his family. He joined the Congress recently, but his family last year switched from the BSP to BJP.“I was faced with an ideological clash and decided against joining the BJP. I recently joined the Congress because it is liberal and believes in diversity,” he said.He said creating jobs, addressing issues of homebuyers, garbage disposal and rural distress will be the main issues in his manifesto. “I will also fight and ensure that Jewar farmers get four times compensation for the airport land,” he added.Local Congress workers expressed unhappiness with the party’s choice. They said the party should have chosen from among themselves instead of opting for an “outsider”.The BSP-SP alliance has already fielded Satveer Nagar (37), a resident of Atta village having ancestral farmland in Greater Noida, for the GB Nagar seat. Nagar has started his poll campaign, promising to address local issues and farmers’ distress.Though there was a buzz earlier in the day, the BJP did not announce its candidate till late Sunday evening. Local MP and Union minister Mahesh Sharma said that the party would likely to make the announcement on Monday.With the nomination process starting from Monday, the district election department has made elaborate arrangements to facilitate the process at the collectorate in Surajpur. The office will receive nomination forms from 11am-3pm. Candidates can come for nomination with a maximum of four persons. .
