We received information around 2.20pm, and immediately sent a police team that soon reached the spot and rushed the children to Yatharth hospital where they were declared dead . The bodies have been sent for autopsy. Prima facie, it appears that the boys sneaked into the power substation while playing and got trapped inside.“Senior officials of NPCL were immediately informed about the accident,” said Ajay Kumar, the SHO of Kasna. NPCL officials also reached the spot and analysed the accident.“The accident occurred after the boys went into the rear side of the circuit breaker in a trench where wires carrying 11,000 watt current are placed. Besides, a high-level investigation will be conducted on how the accident occurred and why the gates were broken ,” said Sarnath Ganguly, vice president (operations), NPCL.Asked about the incident, Rajender, an uncle of Sagar, told TOI that the incident occurred owing to the negligence of NPCL, “The substation carries high-voltage current, but how will a child know about it? The gate of the substation is broken, and the shutter was also half open. This is how the boys went inside and got electrocuted. I demand strict action against NTPC officials,” said Rajender.Police said no case was registered so far as they had not received a complaint. An officer said police could take suo motu cognizance and register a case. “The families are in trauma,” said Vineet Jaiswal, SP (rural).
