New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the Centre’s new agriculture reforms will bring new possibilities for the farmers, and with the infusion of technology in farming, there will be more investment in the sector. “Agriculture reforms would bring new markets and opportunities to farmers, they will gain from technology. This will bring more investment in Agriculture and this will benefit the farmers most, especially the small farmer,” PM Modi said while speaking at the 93rd annual general meeting of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).

He said that farmers in India today are able to sell their produce both at local markets as well as outside, and also on digital platforms. “Today, farmers of India can sell their produce both at the mandis, as well as outside. Farmers can also sell their produce on digital platforms. We’re taking all these initiatives to increase the farmers’ income and make them more prosperous,” the Prime Minister said. The PM said that all obstacles in the farming sector have been removed now because of the reforms.

“We had seen walls between agriculture sector and other areas associated with it – be it agriculture infrastructure, food processing, storage or cold chain. All walls and obstacles are being removed now. After reforms, farmers will get new markets, options and more advantage of technology. The cold storage infrastructure will be modernised. This will result in more investments in the agriculture sector. Farmers will be benefitted the most out of it,” he said.

Modi said that policies of the past promoted inefficiency in many sectors and stopped new experiments, adding that the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan promotes efficiency in every sector. “Emphasis is being laid to re-energise technology-based industries in sectors in which India has long term competitive advantage,” he said. Commenting on the coronavirus pandemic, PM Modi expressed relief that “things are improving swiftly” now compared to how the year began.

“In the match of 20-20 we saw a lot of things changing rapidly. But 2020 baffled everyone. The nation and entire world saw a lot of ups and downs. When we think of the Corona period a few years later, perhaps we won’t be able to believe it. It’s good that things are improving swiftly,” the PM said.
