Noida to soon get dog feeding points

  • | Thursday | 1st April, 2021

The Noida Authority, at present, relies upon the expertise of two veterinary doctors and their teams to carry out immunisation drives. However, during a meeting chaired by the chief secretary, on March 6, the commissioner of Noida police said that more focus was needed as feeding dogs had been leading to frequent law and order problems in the twin cities.

To reduce human-animal conflict as well as frequent arguments between dog lovers and resident groups across the city, feeding points will be earmarked in various sectors of Noida, officials said. Subsequently, the Authority will also set up proper shelter homes in the city to keep stray dogs.

Even during a meeting of the public health department last week, authority officials were of the view that running shelter homes would require a lot of funds and resources. “So, to handle the problem on an urgent basis, feeding points will be earmarked across the residential sectors in the city,” said SC Mishra, in-charge of the public health department. “We will provide our green belts. Dog lovers can leave the food and feed dogs at the designated spots. Office bearers of RWAs will also be taken on board before the feeding points are decided.”

The Authority has a shelter home in Sector 94 but more such centres are required. Officials said that the process to empanel an agency for carrying out sterilisation and immunisation of stray dogs has already been initiated. “Once the agency is finalised, we will have experts who will guide us on how to deal with the problem,” said Mishra. “By April 15, the Authority will appoint the agency after evaluation.”
