Scale up Covid tests, residents say as highrises turn hotspots

Noida: Highrises in sectors 76, 119, 120, including Prateek Wisteria, Gaur Grandeur, Prateek Laurel, and places like Arun Vihar (sectors 28, 29 and 37) have been reporting between 40 and 90 cases each for the past few days. Residents have demanded that the places be sanitised and testing camps be held in areas with more cases. The Jan Shakti Sewa Samiti, a residents’ body, has written to UP CM Yogi Adityanath requesting that all hospitals in Gautam Budh Nagar be brought directly under the district administration for better monitoring of the situation. They have also suggested that community centres and clubs be used as testing facilities and for other related work.

In Noida Extension, the maximum number of active cases has been reported from Gaur City 2 (98). Gaur City 1 has 54 cases and Ace City has about 80 Covid patients in home isolation. In Noida, Prateek Wisteria Sector 76, has 104 patients and Prateek Laurel Sector 120, has 75 active cases. There are 40 patients each in Gaur Grandeur Apartments and Eldeco Aamantran, Sector 119. Arun Vihar has 84 positive patients followed by 40 cases in Sector 34.

“We have closed our swimming pool, gym and daily sanitise all common areas of towers that have positive cases. All are in home isolation. We are conducting daily screening of local vendors. We have removed the sitting area in front of the society gate,” said Rajan Verma, secretary, Apartment Owners’ Association, (AOA) Gaur Grandeur, Sector 119.

The AOA of Prateek Laurel is organising regular Covid testing camps. “Regular sanitisation is being carried out in common areas,” said Amrita, a resident of the society. While Eldeco apartment and Prateek Laurel maintain a daily dashboard on Covid cases, the former carries out daily fogging of the apartment complex and sanitisation of the towers that have cases twice a day.

Colonel (retd) IP Singh, chairman, Arun Vihar Residents Welfare Association ( said among the 84 patients, all are above 70, except one, who is a 22-year-old man. “There are 52 cases in sector 29, 20 cases in sector 37 and 12 cases in sector 28. No fogging or sanitisation is happening. I got the areas sanitised by spending Rs 40,000 twice from AVRWA funds,” he said, adding that since last year, Arun Vihar has had a total 534 cases. While 432 had recovered, 18 people had died. Narendra Bhooshan, nodal officer in-charge of Covid care in the district, said: “I urge all residents to wear masks and stay at home as far as possible,” said Bhooshan.
