NOIDA: The Noida Authority has decided to engage RWAs to provide oxygen for patients in home isolation. This comes after several requests from residents to the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration to devise some mechanism to provide relief to patients in dire need of oxygen.

GB Nagar administration had asked the three development authorities -- Noida Authority, GNIDA and YEIDA -- to step in and help the residents. Now, after holding several meetings with entrepreneurs and owners of oxygen manufacturing units over the weekend, the authority has also planned to launch a helpline for residents after arranging for supplies. District magistrate Suhas LY said, “We wrote to the three authorities on Saturday to help the residents. Within 48 hours to 72 hours, some concrete measures will be taken to address the problem. We do not want to start something unless we get assurance and commitment from all the stakeholders.”

Chief executive officer of Noida Authority Ritu Maheshwari said that an arrangement is being worked out with the BHEL plant in Haridwar to ensure regular supply and refilling of cylinders. “The existing plants and suppliers in NCR are overburdened and catering to the demand of the hospitals. Their supply cannot be diverted for domestic use till the situation improves. However, we are going to depute vehicles to ferry cylinders from Haridwar to Noida. Things shall materialise within the next few days,” she said. She added that the authority will tie up with RWA office bearers to provide the cylinders and will not entertain requests of individuals directly.

Welcoming the decision, Alok Nagar, secretary of Delta 2 RWA in Greater Noida, said that since more people are in home isolation this will help save a lot of lives.
