The state-run Noida Covid Hospital on Monday refuted reports that some of its patients had died because of oxygen shortage, saying it had adequate oxygen supply and deaths that had happened were because of health complications.

There was speculation that the hospital had run out of oxygen on the intervening night of May 2 and 3, which led to the facility that was inaugurated last year and currently has 240 patients admitted issuing a statement.

“This is to clarify that continuous supply chain of oxygen is being maintained through more than 300 cylinders and 50 oxygen concentrators. The deaths that have happened are due to complications of Covid 19/pneumonia and myocardial infarction,” said the statement.

The official death toll from Covid-19 reported from Gautam Budh Nagar on May 3 was 13. The number of Covid funerals at the Sector 94 crematorium the same day stood at around 45. An official at the crematorium, which has now been designated only for the last rites of Covid patients, said, “Around 45 cremations of Covid bodies took place on Monday out of which seven came from the government hospital,” said an official.

Dr Renu Aggarwal, chief medical superintendent of the hospital, said only two deaths had taken place on May 2 and May 3 at the facility. “One death happened on May 2 and another on May 3. The rest of the bodies were of those who were unknown and kept lying in the mortuary. The mortuary of the Covid hospital and the (Noida) district hospital are the same,” she said.
