Greater Noida: On the lines of Noida Authority, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) is going to initiate a drive to provide oxygen for those in home isolation. Officials in the authority have started reaching out to residents of apartment complexes in Noida Extension area, however, the residential colonies and blocks having row houses are yet to be covered.

GNIDA chief executive officer (CEO) Narendra Bhooshan, who is also the nodal officer for Covid-19 management in Gautam Budh Nagar district, said: “Supply of oxygen to hospitals treating Covi-19 patients is our priority in the present scenario. At the same time, a team of officials has been asked to assess the demand of those in home isolation in Greater Noida. We will try to work out a proper arrangement for the residents recovering at home as well.” The GNIDA has got authorisation from the BHEL plant in Haridwar to get empty cylinders refilled. Officials have provided vehicles that are being sent collectively by office bearers of the apartment complexes to ferry loaded cylinders from Haridwar.

On Wednesday, Noida Authority launched an oxygen bank service through a community centre at Sector 93 B. Officials are taking empty oxygen cylinders from Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Apartment Owners’ Associations (AOAs) and getting them refilled from Haridwar. Loaded oxygen cylinders are being handed over to the city residents within 48 hours.

According to GNIDA officials, soon, residents staying in Greater Noida East will also be covered. President of the Federation of Residents’ Welfare Associations in Greater Noida Devendra Tiger said: “We have been following up with the Greater Noida Authority (GNIDA), but are yet to get any response. My mother, Prakashi Devi (75), needed oxygen support on Thursday. But both Kailash and Yatharth hospitals in Greater Noida turned us away citing shortage of oxygen.”
