10 `poor` days in Oct, AQI may slip to `very poor` on Sunday

NOIDA: The overall air quality of Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad this October was worse than the corresponding period last year, as no good air quality day was recorded from October 1-27, according to the data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Last October, Noida and Greater Noida recorded three and six good air days, respectively, while Ghaziabad had five good air quality days. Track the pollution level in your cityAn analysis of air quality from October 1-27 this year showed Noida did not record any good air days, but one satisfactory air day. Also, this month saw 15 moderate, 10 poor and one very poor day till now. Greater Noida also did not record any good or satisfactory air quality days during this period but had four moderate, 22 poor, and one very poor air quality day. Ghaziabad had one satisfactory, 15 moderate and 11 poor air days. The air quality did not slip to the severe category this month. Meanwhile, last year during this period, Noida recorded three good, three satisfactory, eight moderate, 11 poor and two very poor days. Greater Noida recorded six good, one satisfactory, six moderate, 13 poor and one very poor day. Ghaziabad had five good, one satisfactory, eight moderate, 12 poor and one very poor air days during this period. Utsav Sharma, UPPCB regional officer in Noida, attributed the worse air days to a lack of rainfall this October. "There was rainfall last October which led to better air quality. But this month, there was no rain. GRAP stage II is enforced in Delhi-NCR and 14 teams of pollution department, and the Noida Authority are conducting enforcement drives to ensure its compliance," he said. On Friday, Noidas air slipped to poor, recording an AQI of 220. The city had moderate air the day before. The air in Greater Noida and Ghaziabad remained in the poor category with AQI of 280 and 227 respectively. "There were predominant winds from northwest directions with a wind speed of 4-8 kmph and calm winds during the night. The slow wind speed is unfavourable for the dispersion of pollutants. The air quality is likely to be in poor category on Saturday and slip to very poor on Sunday," said a SAFAR statement.
