14 cheat US citizens with fake insurance policies, arrested

Noida: Fourteen people were arrested for running a fraudulent call centre and selling fake health insurance policies to US citizens, police said. Police officers added that the accused defrauded around 100 people over the last three to four months.According to the police, the accused have been identified as Nikhil Yashwal, Deepanshu Chauhan, Nitin Singh, Ankit Kumar Jhan, Rishabh Gupta, Gaurav Singh, Kuldeep Mishra, Tajim Ali, Ankush Gupta, Orko Sain, Harsh Singh, Nitin Choudhary, Nishant Kumar, and Kamran Faridi.They are all residents of Delhi or Noida.An FIR was registered against the accused under sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of IPC and further proceedings are underway, police said.The accused were traced and arrested as a result of electronic surveillance, manual intelligence and confidential information. We also recovered seven computer desktop sets, internet routers, a laptop, headphones, databases of US phone numbers and calling scripts from the accused, said Shakti Avasthy, additional DCP, Noida.Investigation has revealed that the accused would call people in the US using fake names and try to get them interested in health insurance policies. If the caller agreed, they would redirect the call to a company called Harvard Business Services Inc. The sexual harassment committee found the principal guilty based on credible statements from five victims. Women activists have expressed concerns about the investigation and accused district officials of pressuring the girls to withdraw their complaints.
