Residents rue sewers without covers in Greater Noida

GREATER NOIDA: The residents and RWA of Greater Noida complain of open sewer drains with no covers in Alpha, Beta 1, Gamma, Omicron etc. "Many sectors across Greater Noida have open sewer drains with no covers. These open sewers are not visible and can be dangerous at night," she said.Despite repeated calls to C K Tripathi , general manager urban services Greater Noida authority, there was no response. "The sewer covers are missing in at least 15-20 drains across many sectors in the city. Despite many complaints to the Greater Noida Authority , no action has been taken on the matter so far," said Harinder Bhati, RWA general secretary sector Beta 1, Greater Noida.Bhati who raised the complaint to Debasish Panda was promised action but no action has taken place so far.

Recently another sewer drain was found without cover opposite Vishwa Bharti School between sectors Alpha and Beta 1. Despite many complaints to the Greater Noida Authority , no action has been taken on the matter so far," said Harinder Bhati, RWA general secretary sector Beta 1, Greater Noida.Bhati who raised the complaint to Debasish Panda was promised action but no action has taken place so far."The sewer covers are missing in at least 15-20 drains across many sectors in the city. In other places, they are loose and waiting for an accident to happen," said Sushil Kumar a resident of sector Omicron.Bhati maintained that official apathy continues despite a recent incident last month "of an elderly gentleman having slipped into an open sewer during his morning walk in sector Beta 1, this incident broke his leg as well as injured his spine," said Bhati.According to Snelata Singh, resident of Alpha 1 "children are at grave risk especially during late evening hours when they tend to return home from parks and neighbouring playgrounds. These open sewers are not visible and can be dangerous at night," she said.Despite repeated calls to C K Tripathi , general manager urban services Greater Noida authority, there was no response. Meanwhile Bhati informed that CEO Panda has promised action on the issue soon.
