Noida demands power for Resident welfare associations

"We spoke about the ongoing problem of garbage dumping in Noida and health hazards related to it. How there's a need for dedicated waste dumping and treatment method in cities and how Noida lacks a dedicated landfill site," said A N Dhawan, secretary general FONRWA.Apart from this, the national conference of RWAs also had panel discussions on housing matters including Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA), co-operative society matters like MCS Act (an Act relating to co-operative societies in the State of Maharashtra), elections, byelaws and partnership with different Governments at different levels along with sessions on fire safety, earthquakes and social audits. "Nearly 400 participants from many states and cities attended the national RWA conference where we raised the issue of strengthening the role and scope of RWAs in cities (on the lines of gram sabhas in rural areas) as RWAs are the first point contact for addressing civic amenities between a resident and the concerned government," N P Singh , president Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) told TOI.Singh adds that MUD minister Puri heard their plea for constitutional / legal rights for RWAs and promised to look into the matter.Noida RWA federation also discussed the issue of municipal solid waste management and pollution in Gautam Budh Nagar at the two-day event. NOIDA: The two day national conference of RWAs held in Mumbai on Nov 18-19 culminated on Sunday where Noida RWA federation raised issues of constitutional/legal rights to RWAs on the lines of gram sabhas as well as issues of municipal solid waste management and pollution in Gautam Budh Nagar The conference that was attended by nearly 400 participants from across the country had Hardeep Singh Puri , union minister of urban development as the chief guest and saw presentations by RWAs on achievements and contributions such as recycling, e-waste, water conservation rain water harvesting , cleaning of rivers and conservation.The conference that was held at Bhatiawadi Hall, Ghatkopar (E) in Mumbai had participants from cities like Vishakhapatnam, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Noida, Trivandrum and more.While justice M L Tahaliyani, Lokayukta of Maharashtra, Ajit Kumar Jain commissioner RTI (Brihanmumbai bench), D M Sukthankar, former chief secretary of Govt of Maharashtra were some of the attendees, the main concerns revolved around role, scope and powers of RWAs.Noida RWA federation discussed the issue of municipal solid waste management and pollution in Gautam Budh Nagar and also called for strengthening of RWAs on gram sabha lines.
