Prateek Wisteria residents, activists file cases against each other over puppies

NOIDA: A group of activists belonging to People for Animals (PFA) and the other, the residents, belonging to Prateek Wisteria , Sector 77 have filed FIRs against each other over displacement of puppies from the society. "In the last five days, at least eight residents were attacked and bitten by stray dogs. Rai said that the residents have been facing severe problem of stray dogs in the society. "Investigations revealed that the puppies were ousted from the society after the dogs attacked some residents.

The activists accused the residents and security guards of throwing 12 new born puppies outside the society.Kaveri Rana, PFA activist, a resident of Sector Omicron in Greater Noida , said that she received information last week that two bitches had delivered 12 puppies in the society. "Some residents started posting messages on Facebook asking people to throw them out. I immediately got in touch with Wisteria residents and informed them about laws relating to the animals. I asked them that dislocating the puppies was against the law," she said.Rana said that on Sunday some residents and security guards separated the newly born puppies from their mothers and threw them out of society. "Some puppies are missing since then. I visited the society and was shocked at the incident. The forced displacement of animals is against the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960," she said.Rana filed an FIR against Nisha Rai , secretary Prateek Wisteria, the security guards and the developer for mischief by killing or maiming animals under sections 428, Section 429 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960. The case was filed in Sector 49 police station on November 20.However, on November 21, Nisha Rai also filed a counter FIR against the activists Kaveri Rana and Pragati Khanna for threatening residents. Rai said that the residents have been facing severe problem of stray dogs in the society. "In the last five days, at least eight residents were attacked and bitten by stray dogs. We have names and medical reports of all these people. The children and elderly people are afraid to venture out. We wrote to Noida Authority and also the SPCA. Their teams visited the society but failed to catch the stray dogs," she said in the complaint. Vinay Prakash Singh , SHO Sector 49 police station said that based on Rai's complaint, a case for negligent conduct with respect to animals and criminal intimidation under Sections 289 and 506 has been registered against PFA activists. "Investigations revealed that the puppies were ousted from the society after the dogs attacked some residents. We have registered two cases based on their complaints. We are investigating the matter," he said.
