Provide funds for waste treatment: RWAs

"CONRWA's Noida chapter held a meeting at Sector 41 community centre on Wednesday to discuss the issue of solid waste management to be implemented by RWAs as per an Authority directive issued a few days ago. "Without considering the ground reality, cooperation and general awareness amongst public, the announcement is irresponsible," Jain said.CONRWA's Noida wing maintained that RWAs should be recognised as legitimate bodies to carry out the job. As per the rules, all RWAs, gated communities and institutions with more than 5,000 sqm area, market associations, hotels and restaurants will be liable to ensure segregation of biodegradable waste at source. "The Authority should provide compost machines, land for dumping ground as garbage needs to be buried for 10-15 days for conversion into compost, coloured bags for waste segregation and drums for waste collection from its CSR funds," he added.CONRWA convener Brig Ashok Hak (retd) said, "All RWAs, as well as FONRWA and CONRWA, must be taken into confidence to help generate awareness and training for solid waste disposal measures." As per the rules, all RWAs, gated communities and institutions with more than 5,000 sqm area, market associations, hotels and restaurants will be liable to ensure segregation of biodegradable waste at source.
