Annual credit: Bihar deputy CM puts banks on notice

PATNA: Bihar 's deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday asked the bankers to disburse at least 95% of the state’s annual credit plan of Rs 1.10 lakh crore by the end of the current financial year.Modi, who is also the state finance minister, said the banks in state disbursed only Rs 73,215 crore as loan till the third quarter end and it was just 66.56% of the annual credit plan.The deputy CM, after a meeting of State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) here, said Bihar’s credit-deposit (CD) ratio till December 31, 2017 was 41.67%. “Every bank has been asked to notify at least one of its branches in each district with a fixed time period for people to deposit coins,” he said.He said it was also decided to form a committee of experts comprising bankers and state government officers to look into the difficulties being faced by banks in direct transfer of scholarship and uniform amount into the accounts of over 2 crore schoolchildren in the state.Modi said the state had planned to transfer the amount under its various schemes into the schoolchildren’s bank accounts through DBT , but it could not materialize in cases of all students.
