Teaching staff recruitment: HC serves show-cause notices to two officials

PATNA: The Patna high court on Friday served show-cause notices to principal secretary and director-in-chief (nursing) of state health department to reply within two weeks’ time that why they failed to fill vacant positions of teaching staffs in 28 nursing training institutes across Bihar run by the state government.The division bench of Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi and Justice Nilu Agrawal while hearing a contempt petition filed by petitioner Vikash Chandra alias Guddu Baba rapped the state government and also ordered that if the concerned officials fail to reply within a time frame, they would be summoned for physical appearance before the court to reply on the issue.The contempt petition was filed by the petitioner after the state government failed to comply with an earlier order of the high court in which it had ordered that all the vacant positions of the teaching staffs in the nursing institutes across the state should be fulfilled within six months time period after sending requisition to the staff selection commission within one week’s time.The order was issued by the division bench of acting Chief Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah on November 8, 2016.The petitioner, in his public interest litigation filed at that time, had highlighted that the examinations are being conducted in all the institute even after there is massive vacancies of teaching staffs with the help of information procured through RTI.The high court, while ordering the state to fill up the vacancies then, had made comment in its order that a large number of vacancies in the nursing institutes is serious handicap for providing effective medical care to citizen.
