4 killed, many injured in bus accident in Bihar

PATNA: At least four passengers were killed and more than 30 others passengers were injured after a private bus turned turtle near Shankar-Lohar chowk on Bahera-Baheri Road (SH-56) under Baheri police station area in Darbhanga district at around 1pm on Sunday. “The mangled bus was removed from the accident spot,” he added. Sources said the ill-fated bus was travelling from Pokhrama in Biraul to Laheriasarai, both in Darbhanga.Darbhanga SSP Manoj Kumar said the accident probably took place while the driver tried to save a motorcyclist coming from Samastipur in opposite direction.“A person from Samastipur was found critically injured at the spot who is undergoing treatment at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). A bike bearing registration number of Samastipur was also found at spot,” the SSP said.Baheri circle officer Vimal Kumar Karn said deceased persons were identified as Mukesh Mandal (35), Dinesh Chaupal (30), Mohammad Laddu and Mohammad Shakur.He said Mukesh was the co-driver of the bus and rest three were passengers. “The age of Laddu and Shakur were yet to be ascertained,” he said.“Mukesh and Dinesh were residents of Shankar Lohar and Havadih village, both under Baheri police station area while Laddu and Shakur both were residents Lohni village under Biraul police station area, both in Darbhanga,” the CO said.He said ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh was handed over to kin of Mukesh and Dinesh while documentation process was going on for awarding the ex-gratia to kin of rest two deceased passengers.He said 11 passengers were under treatment at Baheri primary health centre (PHC) while 22 injured passengers were admitted at DMCH.Karn said the bus driver had applied brakes in such a way that the massive vehicle turned into opposite direction after which it plunged into a roadside ditch and rolled couple of times before coming to rest.Baheri police station SHO (in-charge) Ranjeet Kumar said an FIR was lodged against unknown driver in connection with the incident.
