However, the monsoon current is stagnant from last four days. The rain-bearing winds normally enter Bihar through north-eastern districts of Purnia and Katihar around June 10 and cover the entire state by June 12. The Patna Meteorological Centre has predicted that maximum temperature would remain in the range of 42-43 degrees C till July 21.In its all India-weather bulletin issued on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that heatwave conditions would prevail over eastern parts of the country at least till the next two days. A heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature remains more than 40 degrees C and 4.5 degrees or more above the normal temperature for more than two days.According to weather experts, it is unusual for a heatwave-like situation to develop in the four-month monsoon season. PATNA: The delay in onset of southwest monsoon and dominance of hot north-westerly winds have virtually turned the state into a big oven with the maximum temperature in Patna and many other places hovering around 40 degrees C.An official at Patna Meteorological Centre said moisture-laden south-westerly winds that bring rainfall during monsoon have been replaced by a north-westerly flow, making the weather hot and dry.The maximum temperature in Patna on Saturday was recorded at 43 degrees C, six notches above the normal. The weather anomaly has been attributed to north-westerly winds blowing in from the hot plains of north and central India. The only respite from the prevailing hot weather conditions can be in the form of pre-monsoon showers, but residents should not have high hopes as the Patna Meteorological Centre has predicted only light showers, that also at isolated place till Wednesday.Meanwhile, the onset of southwest monsoon is unlikely over the next one week as the IMD stated in its bulletin on Saturday that further advance of southwest monsoon is not likely during next 6- 7 days due to the likely prevalence of weak monsoon pattern. After making its foray in mainland India through Kerala coast on May 29, the southwest monsoon has covered a number of places along the western and eastern coast including Goa, Karnataka and Rayalaseema , some parts of south Konkan, south- central Maharashtra , Marathwada, Vidarbha , south Chhattisgarh , south Odisha, entire Telangana , most parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and some parts of West Bengal.
