PATNA: Bihar Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is set to face the music owing to its attempt of politicising the gangrape of a mother and her daughter in Gaya.Bihar State Women's Commission as well as the Gaya Police have claimed to take action against six functionaries of the RJD, including head of the state women wing of the party Abha Lata, for causing mental harassment to the minor victim as well as violation of provisions under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), 2012.Police sources claimed that RJD’s Ujiarpur MLA Alok Mehta and Gaya MLA Surendra Yadav and three others were also present at the spot.Two days after the heinous incident in which the mother-daughter duo was gang-raped in front of their father in Konch police station area in Gaya, a delegation of RJD stopped the police vehicle carrying the 14-year-old girl while she was returning from medical examination from Prabhavati Hospital on Friday afternoon.Eyewitnesses claimed that the girl was taken out of the police vehicle by the RJD functionaries and workers as they were sloganeering against the ruling NDA government, led by CM Nitish Kumar, on the middle of the street. The girl eventually got agitated and broke down amid the hullabaloo.“Kab Se Bol Rahe Hain Ghar Jana Hai. Kitna Baar Batayein Media Ko. Aap Log Ko Samjh Me Nai Aa Raha Hai (I am saying this from so long. How many times I am going to tell the media. You people don’t understand my condition),” the minor said as the RJD members tried to hog attention of camerapersons present at the spot. In frustration, the girl also put down the cloth with which she was covering her face.Reacting to the incident, Bihar State Women Commission chairperson Dilmani Mishra told reporters on Saturday: “It was quite shameful that the victim girl was taken out of the police vehicle by member of a political party that tried to gain publicity. The girl was visibly agitated with it and she even put down her dupatta with which she was covering her face. We will send notices to the members of the political party and strict action would be taken against them.”Gaya SSP Rajiv Mishra, on the other hand, said an FIR would be lodged soon after completing initial probe into the incident. “A complaint has been registered related to the incident that happened on Friday, when the minor victim was retiring from medical examination. Prima facie, it looks violation of the POCSO Act related to revealing the identity of minor victim. An FIR would be lodged soon after verifying the different aspects of the incident,” the SSP said.Meanwhile, the RJD claimed that it was performing its duties in the role of a responsible opposition. “The party had sent its delegation to Gaya as a responsible opposition. Incidents of sexual assault against women have become quite frequent in the state and the RJD would continue to raise its voice against it from the Assembly to the streets. We are concerned about safety of women in the state,” RJD’s spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said.
