PATNA: Governor-cum-chancellor of universities Satya Pal Malik on Sunday said his recent remark that girls studying in state's universities and colleges can send complaints of molestation or sexual harassment on campus to the Raj Bhavan should not be seen as the criticism of functioning of the police or any other law enforcing agencies."The idea was not to run a parallel police headquarters," Malik said while addressing the seventh convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology-Patna (NIT-P) at Gyan Bhavan here. The governor lauded CM Nitish Kumar for improving law and order scenario in the state. "CM Nitish Kumar is a person who maintains zero tolerance policy in matters related to crime and corruption. He has improved law and order scenario in the state. I also praise Patna police for its works," Malik said.Malik told media persons that his recent statement at a conference organised by students' unions of all state universities on June 14 regarding safety of girl students was misinterpreted by certain people. Leader of opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had launched a blistering attack on CM citing the governor's statement.Addressing the NIT-P passouts, Malik said 4-5 years in college are the best time in one's life."Students should live this time of their lives at fullest and learn from their faculty members about the technical field," he said and added, "The development of a nation is not possible without technology. In 50 years, the advent of technology has changed the world. Students need to understand the latest technology."Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Anil D Sahasrabudhe congratulated the students and highlighted few initiatives which institutes need to undertake. "Industry linkage, research and innovation in educational ecosystem, establishing national and international networks, enhanced involvement of alumni and making facilities available to students round the clock are some of the important initiatives in growth of institutes and overall development of students," he said.NIT-Patna director P K Jain presented the annual report of the institute.
