PATNA: A JD(U) leader Dayanand Singh (45) was shot at in front of his shop near railway station at Balia under Balia police station area in Begusarai district on Monday night.Balia police station SHO Sunil Kumar said that Singh was former Balia block president of JD(U) in the district and owns a shop on NH-31 near the railway station which sells raw materials for building construction.SHO Kumar said Singh was sitting in front of his shop when three youths on a bike, all wearing helmets, reached the spot.Kumar said that Singh along with few others were sitting in front of his shop at the time when the trio reached the spot.“They trio posed as customer and started conversation with Singh over purchase of construction material. It was then one of the assailant suddenly pulled out a small firearm and open fire targeting Singh,” he said.He said that the bullet hit Singh on his right leg and in between, the trio fled from the spot on the bike.“Singh was immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment,” he said adding that investigation were on to ascertain the identity of the attackers.Quoting Singh, the SHO said that he had denied any enmity or business rivalry with anyone in the district.
