Foreign lang courses in Patna Univ find takers

PATNA: Foreign language courses in Patna University (PU), which were gathering dust for three decades, have finally found some takers. At least 16 students have been enrolled in German and French language proficiency certificate courses to be held at Darbhanga House on the university campus.Classes in as many as six foreign language courses in the current academic session are scheduled to commence by July-end.“Only four students took admission when the foreign language courses started almost three decades ago, but this year 16 students have been enrolled in German and French courses. So far, German is in high demand,” said Mukherjee, adding foreign language courses could fetch jobs in foreign embassies and international organizations or as translators.According to Sannu Kumar, a BSc student of Magadh University , “I am learning French because I think it is a beautiful language.”Homemaker Reeta Sinha, who has taken admission in the German language course in PU, said, “I want to learn at least one foreign language. I am sure they will become popular and the seats (40 each) will soon be full,” chief coordinator of foreign language courses at PU, Indiber Mukherjee, told this newspaper on Tuesday.The foreign languages selected for the six-month certificate course are German, French, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.“Counselling has begun and will wrap up soon. That is why I have enrolled myself in this course.”
