HC raps top officers for traffic jam due to VIPs

PATNA: The Patna high court on Friday directed chief secretary Deepak Kumar and DGP KS Dwivedi to ensure that people at large are not effected anywhere in the state due to VIP movements and programmes.The two top officers were summoned by Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah on Thursday after rural woks department principal secretary reached the court late due to traffic jam caused by route diversion for BJP president Amit Shah’s visit to the city.Furious over the traffic snarls and blockade at several places during the VIP movement, the court had summoned both the officers in the court at 10.30am. The two, along with Patna SP (traffic) PN Mishra were present in the court. The DGP apologized to the court that such situations would not take place again, especially in Patna. He also apprised the court that there was no order to block any route from higher level.To a question by the court what he intended to do to avoid such situations, the chief secretary said he would direct the authorities concerned to take measures so that such a situation does not arise in future.“Take suo motu action t your level and don’t increase the burden on court,” Justice Amanullah directed the chief secretary.Meanwhile, the court also told the traffic SP that his men were incompetent and not doing their job. “There are 100 more competent officers than you. If you can’t handle the situation, better give chance to others,” the court made a verbal remark.“I will try to do my best. The court may have faith in me,” Mishra said. To this, the court said he was supposed to deliver to the common people.The court after assurance given by the chief secretary and the DGP in the presence of advocate general Lalit Kishore, the court said, “All good intentions of officers become meaningless if not applied on the ground.”
