Banker's murder: Bank staff, showroom owner held

PATNA: Jehanabad police arrested six persons including an assistant branch manager of Bank of Baroda (BOB) and a two wheeler showroom owner from different locations in Arwal district on Sunday for their alleged involvement in killing of bank manager Alok Chandra (31) who was shot dead on NH-110 near village Nihalpur under Parasbigha police station area in Jehanabad district on May 21 this year. “From there he again went to Delhi and Surat via flight before retuning again to Arwal,” he said.Maneesh said the fuor shooters became relaxed after realising that police were targeting other suspects and got involved in crime again, finally leading to their arrest. The killing had resulted an outrage amid bank employees in the state.Jehanabad SP Maneesh (he goes by single name), while talking to TOI over phone on Sunday, said Rajesh Kumar was assistant branch manager of the town area branch of BOB in Arwal district, who was posted under Chandra, while Brajesh Kumar was the showroom owner.“The four arrested contract killers were Pintu Kumar, Prince Kumar, Vikas Kumar and Raju Kumar alias Rajkishore, all residents of different areas of Arwal,” he said adding Brajesh’ brother-in-law Jitendra Kumar was the lone accused who was yet to be nabbed in the murder case.Chandra was going to his branch on a two-wheeler located at town area of Arwal from his residence at Kutri village under Warisaliganj police station area in Nawada when he was shost dead at around 8.15am.Maneesh said Chandra was murdered for rightly discharging his duty and the entire murder case was due to Rs 1.5 crore loan taken by Brajesh from Chandra’s branch and wrongly diverting it for other use.“Rs 1.5 lakh contract (supari) was paid to Jitendra by Brajesh to eliminate Chandra,” he said adding a bike and a country made pistol used in killing was also recovered by police.Maneesh said Brajesh had taken Rr 1.5 crore loan from the branch in 2016 on name of his showroom but had invested money in purchasing lands.“Chandra, who had joined at the bank just couple of months before murder, was constantly demanded papers from Brajesh to show that he had utilised it for purpose citing which he had taken loan,” Maneesh said.“Failing to cope up pressure from Chandra, Brajesh discussed matter with Rajesh who suggested that Chandra will not listen in straight way and some other method must be adopted against him,” he said quoting Brajesh’s confessional statement.“Brajesh contacted Jitendra and paid him Rs 1.5 lakh for the hit job,” Maneesh said adding technical surveillance indicates Jitendra and the shooters were present at spot at the time of murder.He said one of the shooters Rajkishore fled to Chennai after boarding a flight from Patna on May 22, a day after murder.
