PATNA: In yet another instance of what is known as ‘pakadua vivah’ in Bihar, a 30-year-old engineer based in Samastipur was allegedly abducted and forcibly married to a girl against his wish at gunpoint.Police said Durga Sharan was allegedly abducted from Salaha under the Jandaha police station area in Vaishali district while he was returning to village home at Vaishali’s Bidupur on a bike with friend Sourav on Saturday evening. As the kidnappers left along with Sharan in their SUV, Sourav informed Sharan’s mother Veena Devi. She lodged an FIR in Jandaha police station the same night.Jandaha police station SHO Shobha Kant told this reporter over the phone police rescued the engineer from Kameshwar Singh’s house at Raghopur under the Vaishali’s Jurawanpur police station area on Sunday morning. “Sharan told police he was forcibly married to 22-year-old Priyanka Kumari, daughter of Arvind Rai,” the SHO said.Kant said six members of the bride’s family had been named as accused in the FIR. They include bride’s father Arvind.Another police officer quoted the girl as claiming that she had been dating Sharan for a year. “The girl told police Sharan demanded dowry for marriage and had lately started avoiding her, after which her relatives kidnapped him,” the officer said and added investigations were on.
