PMC Drainage cleaning work to be over by July 30

PATNA: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) in collaboration with the Bihar Rajya Jal Parishad (BRJP) issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) on Sunday for tackling the waterlogging problem in the city. “De-silting work of the drains in Saidpur, Mandiri and Serpentine Road is going on. The sludge from drains will also be disposed of within the first 12 hours to ensure that it does not flow back to the drains or cause trouble to commuters.

PMC officials have claimed that the work will wind up before July 30.“PMC and BRJP workers have started winding up the de-silting work of the major drainage channels and other small drains. The sludge from drains will also be disposed of within the first 12 hours to ensure that it does not flow back to the drains or cause trouble to commuters. Various flood spots have been identified by the civic body and the process of procuring motor machines initiated,” mayor Sita Sahu told this newspaper on Monday.The municipal body has also started working in low-lying areas like Kankerbagh, Pataliputra Colony, Patna Junction area, Old Bypass Road, Govind Mitra Road, Chiraiyatand Road, Janki Road, Mandiri area, Nageshwar Colony and Rajendra Nagar area as they are flood prone.Deliberating on the joint orders of the PMC and the BRJP, deputy municipal commissioner Vishal Anand said, “The proposed SOP will ensure speedy completion of the monsoon preparedness work, including drainage cleaning. Feedback from the local residents will also be taken. Drainage cleaning will be considered complete only after it has been approved by the administration and the locals.”An SOP is released every year if the drainage cleaning work is not completed in time. “De-silting work of the drains in Saidpur, Mandiri and Serpentine Road is going on. Besides, 10 drains in Bakerganj area, more than 120 small and big drains along with 150 manholes are being cleaned with the help of two sewer suction machines,” Anand said and added more than 200 PMC and BRJP workers had been deployed for the purpose at different location in the city.
