PATNA: The state government proposes to mandate the Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) to process the recruitment of doctors, engineers and vets in government departments. The government made a move in this regard by circulating copies of the ‘Bihar Technical Employees Selection Commission (amendment) Bill among the MLAs on the first day of monsoon session on Friday. These recruitments were hitherto done by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) through a written test and interview. The amendments propose renaming of the ‘Bihar Technical Employees Section Commission’ as ‘Bihar Technical Service Commission’. It was hitherto empowered to make recommendations for appointment of technical employees only up to the grade pay of Rs 4,800.The Bill will come up for discussion and voting in the house on Monday, assembly secretary Rajiv Kumar told TOI.Sources said unlike the BPSC, the BTSC would do away with the practice of conducting written examination for selection of doctors, engineers and vets.CM Nitish Kumar , while addressing a health department’s function on May 28 this year, had announced that doctors and engineers would not have to appear in written examination to get the state jobs.“One becomes an engineer or doctor after studying for four to five years and clearing a tough written examination... Why should such people appear for a written test again for recruitment?” Nitish had said and added the rules related to recruitment of doctors and engineers were being simplified.
