Two arrested for seeking extortion from BDO

PATNA: The Sheikhpura police arrested two persons on Saturday on charges of demanding Rs 50,000 as extortion from Barbigha block development officer (BDO) Pankaj Kumar.Sheikhpura SP Daya Shankar said the two arrested persons – Avinash Kumar and Kishore Kumar – had approached the BDO when he was on a morning walk on Saturday and threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to pay the amount within six hours. “The two were accompanied by one more person, who is yet to be arrested,” the SP said.Though sources said Avinash was associated with JD (U), the party denied it. He was spearheading a protest against the BDO for not releasing the payments of those engaged in toilet constructions in the district,” police sources said.TOI tried to contact BDO several times but his official cellphone was found switched off. “The arrested person is not even the primary member of the party,” JD (U) spokesman Neeraj Kumar said.Police said Avinash was arrested from Khojagachi village and Kishore from Khalilchak village under the Barbigha police station area in the district on the basis of an FIR lodged against them by the BDO.“Kishore is a swachhagrahi at the block level.
