BSEB allowed tainted dealer to buy answer sheets

Gupta was in jail for several months. We lodged an FIR with the Kotwali police station on July 20 and he was arrested the following day.”When asked how a person accused in a BSEB-related scam was awarded tender, Kishor said Gupta was not convicted in the case yet.

PATNA: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), it seems, has refused to learn any lesson from its past blunders as it awarded tender for buying used answer sheets to a scrap dealer who was jailed in the copy tender case following the topper scam in 2016.The matter surfaced after Patna police arrested Raj Kishore Gupta from his scrapyard under the Ram Krishna Nagar police station area late Friday night after recovery of more than one lakh answer sheets of Intermediate examination conducted by the BSEB in 2017. City SP (central) D Amarkesh said Marwari College peon Rampukar Singh had sold the answer sheets kept at the evaluation centre to Gupta for Rs8,000. “Police are investigating about other scrap yards of Gupta,” he said.The BSEB awarded the tender to Gupta in June last to buy used answer sheets of Class X and XII of 2014 and 2016 from different evaluation centres in the state, Kotwali police station SHO Rama Shankar said on Sunday.Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said Gupta was a non-FIR accused in the copy tender scam of around Rs9 crore, which had been detected during investigation into the BSEB topper scam in 2016. Gupta was in jail for several months. When asked if BSEB would award similar tender to him again until the court verdict in the case, Kishor said he would be barred from participating in any BSEB tender process.Sources said the BSEB and a senior Patna police officer were alerted by businessmen that tainted Gupta was being allotted tender again, but they turned a blind eye to the information.
