Alert in 5 dists toll staff killers still at large

PATNA: Police of five districts have been alerted to nab the killers of toll plaza employee Mukesh Sharma (40), who was shot dead by occupants of a car for being asked to pay toll tax on NH-77 in Vaishali district on Saturday evening. The identity of car owner was ascertained as one from Khijarsarai in Gaya district . Dhillon said the incident took place when the red colour car with three to four occupants entered into the VIP lane of the toll plaza through which only exempted vehicles are allowed to pass through. “The owner book, pamphlets of real estate advertising and visiting cards of a suspect were recovered from the car. Sharma asked the car driver to stop and pay tax.

The toll plaza is under the Sarai police station area and the national highway connects Muzaffarpur to Vaishali.Vaishali SP Manavjeet Singh Dhillon said while the district borders were sealed soon after the incident at around 6.15pm, police of Patna , Saran, Samastipur and Gaya had also been alerted about the crime suspects. Dhillon said the incident took place when the red colour car with three to four occupants entered into the VIP lane of the toll plaza through which only exempted vehicles are allowed to pass through. Sharma asked the car driver to stop and pay tax. An altercation took place and one of the occupants opened fire on Sharma at close range, killing him on the spot.The CCTV footage of the incident show the car speeding away when other toll plaza staff attacked it with plastic chairs and other items in an attempt to stop it. The villagers blocked all roads in the area for more than six hours.Dhillon said the car was later found abandoned at Hathsarganj under the Town police station area in Hajipur at around 7.30pm. “The owner book, pamphlets of real estate advertising and visiting cards of a suspect were recovered from the car. The identity of car owner was ascertained as one from Khijarsarai in Gaya district . He has several criminal cases lodged against him,” the SP said, adding police were screening the CCTV footage to identify the killers.“The family members of Sharma handed over his body to the police only at around 2am on Sunday after which post mortem was conducted at the sadar hospital,” Dhillon said, adding a team of Vaishali police was sent to Khijarsarai, but the car owner was not present at the address.
