State VCs gear up for national meet

PATNA: The vice-chancellors of all Bihar universities are gearing up to attend a three-day national conference of vice-chancellors to be held in New Delhi at the UGC initiative from July 26 to 28. The theme of the conference is ‘Research and innovation in higher education’.The VCs have been asked to submit a brief note and a PPT (PowerPoint presentation) up to 10 slides on research and innovation initiatives in their respective universities. Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar will chair the conference.Munger University VC Ranjit Kumar Verma, who has made necessary preparations to present his viewpoints at the conference, hope some positive outcome would come out from the discussions, suggesting meaningful changes in the system of higher education with respect to quality. They should focus on the major research projects undertaken, existing research ecosystem, strategies for promoting research, financing of research including extramural funding, major innovations and research outcome.VCs of all central universities, state public and private universities, deemed to be universities and directors of all centrally funded technical institutions, such as Indian Institute of Science, IITs, IIMs and NITs, are to participate in this conference, which will be an ideal platform to discuss and debate academic issues pertaining to higher education.The main agenda of the conference will be digital initiatives in higher education and the action taken on the recommendations of the last VCs’ meet held on July 9 last year; improving the quality of education by universities and the best practices adopted in this regard, imparting vocational skills to students in higher education institutions and measures necessary for increasing the research productivity of universities.
